Intermittent Fasting and where you might go wrong with it

Intermittent Fasting is the most common way that people engage in when they’re trying to loose weight. Don’t get me wrong is a great way to stay in a caloric deficit. I love intermittent fasting. It helped me a lot during the last couple of years since I first started to play with it. But here’s what I’ve learned during this time.

In the last few years it’s been an explosion of research into intermittent fasting, water only fasting, 5:2 fasting, time-restricting feeding and so on… it’s impossible to know which is better.

Time-restricting feeding is the most common type and seems that everyone is doing it. And this is exactly what I’ve been doing. I had a few pounds over my desired weight so I took on this to see if it will work.

I started like most people with skipping breakfast and just drink water and coffee until 1pm. It was great. Look at me. Look at the scale. Everything was great. But after a while I started to be more tired, my energy levels where not great anymore. But I didn’t want to just go back to my old habits. I mean that’s what got me overweight in the first place. So I started reading more and I came over this article about one of the Blue Zone population, the one in Loma Linda, California.

What they are doing is shifting the timing of the intermittent fasting and making lunch the biggest meal of the day. Whilst I was skipping breakfast they were skipping supper. So I decided to give it a try for a few weeks and see what happens.

After a couple of weeks I was feeling great. I had more energy. My weight loss was still on track. My sleep improved. It is amazing.

I’m still not eating right after I wake up but shifting the timing of my intermittent fasting has done wonders. It’s all about the timing. Early timing was the best way to go and I’ll never look back. And on days that involve socialising having dinner is not a problem. One day will not make or break your health. It’s all about consistency. Give it a try and see if it works for you as well.
